As someone who attends a whole lot of weddings, I always find myself piecing together my favourite parts from each one to incorporate into my own wedding one day. Dean and Stacey’s wedding added another item to this list: a week long celebration with my favourite people following a gorgeous ceremony. Dean and Stacey got themselves a beautiful home on Stradbroke Island to use as their base for the week to host a range of friends and family as they caught up, hung out and celebrated with those who had travelled from near and far to celebrate with them.
Before I arrived on the Friday before their wedding, all their guests had started to trickle on to the island. Each day was filled with many planned and unplanned activities such as Art lessons, swimming and (of course!) wedding prep. During a craft session, Stacey and friends collected fallen leaves from around the island and turned them into natural confetti with the help of some decorative hole punches. Right up until the day of the wedding, Dean and Stacey’s house guests formed a willing band of helpers, doing everything from securing the outdoor lighting, building the dance floor and fine tuning the cocktail recipes!
Despite the best laid plans, Friday night saw torrential rain and storm batter South East Queensland which had everyone scrambling for their contingency plans but as we gingerly peeked outside the next morning, we were greeted by a perfect day! No plan B’s required, I could stick to my original brief which was just to capture everyone relaxing. I spent the day prior to the ceremony capturing the boys playing beach cricket, Stacey relaxing with her best friends and family and friends enjoying a lazy Saturday morning. The most gorgeous, relaxed beach wedding followed that afternoon, topped off by a fun, outdoor reception that lasted well into the night.
Dean and Stacey incorporated a range of inclusive touches within their ceremony. The guests were invited to ‘warm’ the couples rings by passing them around and making wishes for the new couple. Dean’s Mother ‘attended’ the ceremony via Skype from South African and the reception bar was named in honour of Dean’s late Dad. The open air, wooden dance floors, the most delicious cocktail reception, post reception bonfire drinks all combined with spectacular ocean views made this wedding a stand out! And this amazing wedding could not have been pulled off without the help of a collection of amazing businesses. Firstly Jeannie from Stradbroke Weddings did all the styling, decor and flowers and generally is just an awesome, lovely person. Milan Martin was the talented musician who played the soundtrack to both the ceremony and reception plus also busted out a few acoustic songs by the bon fire at the end of the night. Stacey wore a very beautiful dress from Judy Copley Bridal and the amazing catering was provided by Amaretto Catering.
Enjoy the gorgeous event below (and keep an eye out for the pants off dance party at the end of the night!)
